Government-

The Senate Security Council has announced that it will open an investigation into the budget allocation of the Rosetta project due to continuing public pressure.

The Rosetta project, ostensibly founded to develop a learning, real time translation program that would not only be able to handle all known human languages, but quickly learn new languages and dialects of human or alien origin, has come under fire repeatedly in the last 5 years for the trillions of dollars that have been poured into it.

Many feel that the continuing lack of signs of extraterrestial life make the program an astonishing waste of taxpayer money, and others have voiced the suspicion that the government has been secretly creating a decryption program that will be used to invade the privacy of ordinary citizens...


Politics-

The Governor of Fatasia, a planet in the Rygiss Wormhole arm, announced his resignation today. The governor had befallen several political disasters in the last few months as it was discovered successively that he had had an affair with his secretary, gave a no bid government contract to a close friend, and had sold a judicial seat to a wealthy donor...


Business-

Investigation of the Exelsior Corporation's handling of their 'Clear Eyes, Blue Eyes' product line continues this week as CDC officials offficially declare the retrovirus contained.

Exelsior Corporation is famous for its designer retroviruses to alter eye, hair, or skin color. Unfortunately, its latest line, the aforementioned Blue Eyes, mutated and spread quickly among the population of New Memphis on the core world Tareus III.

Thousands of residents who contracted the virus now have the widely advertised sky blue eyes and hundreds more have been permanently blinded. Several firms have already begun organizing victims to sue the corporation and settlements are expected to cost the company of hundreds of billions...


Civil-

Officials were happy to announce renewed contact with the Lakea system today. Aparently, a critical component of the world's FTL facility was irreparably damaged due to lax maintenance by the local staff. A replacement is now being sent from the Orion wormhole arm production center along with a unit from the army corp of engineers to ensure the rest of the facility is in working order before it is reactivated.

The event has led a renewal of talks in the Senate to expand the number of production centers for critical FTL components, but the military has continued to be resistant to the idea of proliferating knowledge of the critial technology citing not only the need to maintain their tactical advantage as well as the difficulties in finding personnel with the technical expertise to create the delicate components...


Art-

The world of neural net based computer systems and modern art collided last today as MIT revealed that the critically acclaimed Ode to Joy hosted in the NeoLouvre was created by their new AI Raphael da Vinci entirely without human input.

The artificial intelligence was also responsible for creating three other pieces that gained increasing attention from the art world in the last six months...
